2 .  Cross the road by the railway station and walk over the railway tracks.
Then follow the path up to the roundabout and bear left.

    3. Cross the road at these traffic lights and then head towards the 'X'.

This is the entrance to the woods:

There's only one path, so just follow it until you reach the end.

This pond is a great place to catch Woodpeckers!

    4.  At the end of the path, turn left.

Look out for this lovely church on your left-hand side.

    5. When you reach these traffic lights, cross the road and head for the 'X' which is Orton Mere.

When you enter Orton Mere, follow the road through to the end of the car park where you'll find the railway crossing.

From here, you have three options back to Ferry Meadows:
1/ Take a left turn before you cross the rail track and follow the signs back to the park.

2/ Go over the rail track and cross the weir bridge then go right up to Thorpe Meadows and then double back:

3/ Go over the rail track and cross the weir bridge and then turn left and follow the lovely river path back into the park and through the Golf Course.
Take a sharp left at the end of the path to cross the big bridge and then follow the signs back into the park.
(This river walk option is very pretty in the Spring/Summer time and is well worth the extra mile! )

Ferry Meadows To Nene Valley Railway, Wansford

Distance: Approximately  4.5 miles or 7 km (one way)
    Time:   1.5 hours (one way)
    Terrain: flat/slopes/steps/bridges/gravel paths/grass/road
Eat/Toilet Stop: Not until you reach NVR.
    General Information:
This walk begins at the Ferry Meadows Visitors Centre
then follows the path alongside the Nene Valley Railway, as it veers right into Castor.
We then head back towards the river and follow the path to Nene Valley Railway Station in Wansford.

Look out for the red information along the route for places of interest and stops for refreshments.

    • 1 Starting at the Visitor Centre (X) turn right, heading in the direction of the Caravan Park and Nene Valley railway station.

Overton Station is on the Nene Valley Railway Line:

      Nene Valley Railway
      • Just before you cross the road to the railway station, take a sharp right and follow the path alongside the track.

      • 3 When you reach this signpost, bear straight ahead ...

...then turn left at the crossroads.

      • 4 Follow the path (it will bear to the right) until you reach the railway line crossing, then cross over. Follow  the path in front of you until you go under the next railway bridge...

      ...then turn right.

      •  At the end of the path go through the gate and turn right under the railway   line...

...then walk across the meadow and go left after the gate.

      •  Go through the gate in front of you and follow the path until you reach the railway underpass.

      • 7 Go under the bridge and turn right after the gate.

      • 8 Follow the river path until you see the bridge with Water Newton on your left-hand side, then bear left here.

      • 9  Go through both the gates and follow the path in front of you. (Don't go over the bridge unless you'd like to explore Water Newton).

      • 10  Go through the gate and follow the narrow path.

      • 11 At this point, you can follow the narrow path to the right (which takes you directly up to the railway line path that leads to Wansford Station) but I'm taking you left for a slightly longer (but prettier) walk along the river.

      • 12 Cross the little bridge and head towards the arrow.

      • 13 Bear right before the bridge.

      • 14 Follow this path along the river until the meadow opens out and you see the railway station in front of you(X). Steps by the railway bridge will take you up along the track to the Station.

You've now reached the end of your walk!

You can either walk back the way you came, or have a well earned rest at the Railway Cafe and then take the Nene Valley Train back!
